Kampong Buangkok, the last surviving village in Singapore is facing it’s last days, in the name of urbanisation.

Back in the early days of Singapore the government passed the Housing and Development Act of 1960 in response to the serious problem of housing shortages. Its population, which was 1.6 million in 1960, has grown to 4.8 million living in an area less than 300 square miles, one of the world’s highest population densities.

I’ve only seen this kampong once, when Leon drove us into the rocky narrow roads of Buangkok, and that was just within a few turns from the main road in Hougang New Town.

I would never forget the charm of that little place.
